Former Mason City woman seriously hurt in auto accident in Story county

AMES – A former Mason City woman was seriously hurt in an auto accident this weekend in Story county.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place early in the morning on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in a construction zone in Ames. Two vehicles were southbound on Interstate 35 through a construction zone, passing under Highway 30; the Interstate offered a narrowed roadway at this location. A 2007 Volvo semi driven by 51-year-old Richard Roy Tomkinson and a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by 46-year-old Katherine Kay Sibert of Des Moines (formerly of Mason City) collided. The Chevy pickup went over concrete barrier coming to rest on its top, while the semi went off the road to the right coming to rest blocking the southbound on-ramp to I-35.

As a result of the crash, Sibert driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to Des Moines Methodist Hospital.
