SIBLEY — Iowa DNR is on-site at the Sibley train derailment, working with emergency responders, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Union Pacific Railroad.
A fire is impacting the UP’s ability to clear the site, they said.
DNR staff is assisting EPA in evaluating the derailment’s impacts, monitoring the area and determining next steps to develop the cleanup plan. DNR’s primary role will be oversight on the cleanup efforts and determining any appropriate enforcement.

2 big train wrecks in 2 days within several hundred miles of one another.
1 town had to shelter in place the other town had to be evacuated. Too bad there isn’t a safe alternative for transporting what’s in tanker cars.
