JUCO Wrestling: NIACC’s Minto earns ICCAC wrestler of week award

MASON CITY – NIACC’s Christian Minto was selected as the ICCAC wrestler of the week for the week of March 1-7.

Minto, a sophomore from Cape Coral, Fla., claimed his second straight NJCAA North Central District title at 165 pounds on Sunday. Minto became the first NIACC wrestler to win back-to-back district titles since the school brought back wrestling in 2008.

Minto, who is top-ranked at 165, picked up a 21-2 technical fall over Indian Hills’ Neal Larsen in the district title match. He advanced to the championship match with a 16-1 technical fall over Iowa Western’s Fabian Padilla.

Minto, who is 5-0 with four technical falls, has outscored his opponents this season 81-9.

Minto, who was NJCAA runner-up at 165 pounds in 2020, has a career record of 27-1. He was selected as the 2020 ICCAC wrestler of the year.

In his 28 career matches, Minto has outscored his opponents 285-89.
