College Volleyball: Panthers defeat Indiana State, 3-1

CEDAR FALLS – The UNI volleyball team defeated the Sycamores of Indiana State on Monday night 3-1, splitting the series and moving to 6-7 on the season and 6-4 in the MVC. The Panthers won with set scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 25-16.

The Panthers were able to get out to an early lead in the opening set, moving ahead 14-9 midway through. UNI led 17-11 and made the final push to take the set 25-19. The Panthers finished with 15 kills, 3 solo blocks and 1 ace. The Panthers held the Sycamores to just 7 kills and a .077 team hitting percentage.

The Sycamores jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start the set. The Sycamores led the entire set until a Kaylee Donner service ace tied the set at 16-16. The Sycamores rattled off 6 quick points to lead 22-17 and finished with a 25-20 set victory. The Panthers finished the set with 12 kills, 3 block and 2 aces while recording a .294 team hitting percentage.

UNI moved out to a 6-1 lead to open the set. The Panthers poured it on, extending the lead to 11-3 while hitting .772 as a team. UNI led by as many as 10 when they led 16-6. The Panthers rode the momentum to a 25- 16 set victory. UNI finished with 17 kills, 1 block and 1 ace with a .441 team hitting percentage. The Panthers held the Sycamores to 10 kills on 36 attacks.

The Panthers again moved out to an early lead, taking control of the set with a 14-8 lead. Uni never looked back and coasted to a 25-16 set victory. The Panthers added 15 kills with 3 aces and 2 blocks. UNI hit .282 in the set and held the Sycamores to 11 kills on 40 attacks.

Emily Holterhaus tallied 17 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Kaylissa Arndorfer recorded a team high .381 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 21 swings with just 2 errors and finished with 4 block assists. Tayler Alden added another double-double to her resume ending the night with 39 assists and 17 digs. Baylee Petersen finished with a team high 18 digs.

– UNI finished with 59 kills.
– UNI recorded 76 team digs.
– Emily Holterhaus finished with a team high 17 kills
– Tayler Alden recorded another double double with 39 assists and 17 digs.


– ISU hit .157 as a team.
– ISU finished with 45 kills.
– ISU recorded 65 team digs.
– Mallory Keller finished with a team high 13 kills.
– Chloe Mason recorded 18 assists while Mary Hannah Lewis finished with 16.
– Taylor Shelton finished with a team high 29 digs.

The Panthers will now look to the Redbirds of Illinois State as the MVC foe travels to Cedar Falls for matches on March 7 and 8. Sunday’s match will begin at 2 pm while Monday’s is scheduled for a 5 pm first serve.
