Minnesota man airlifted to hospital after tanker crash in Bremer county

BREMER COUNTY, IOWA – A Minnesota man was airlifted to a hospital after a tanker crash in Bremer county.

On January 22, 2021 at 10:03 AM, the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 63 and 160th Street. A dump truck pulling a dump trailer driven by 57-year-old Mark Ackerson of Sumner, Iowa was traveling northbound on Highway 63 and turning east onto 160th Street. A semi and tanker trailer driven by 64-year-old Gregory Korfe of Long Prairie, Minnesota, was also traveling northbound on Highway 63 and rear-ended Ackerson.

As a result of the collision, Korfe was transported to Rochester, Minnesota by AirCare. Northbound lanes of Hwy 63 remained closed for approximately 4 hours.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Tripoli Fire Department, Tripoli Ambulance, Frederika Fire Department, Frederika First Responders, Iowa DOT, Iowa State Patrol, AirCare and Rasmusson’s Towing.
