DES MOINES – The Iowa Canvassing Board today certified the election in Iowa District 2 seat in Congress for Republican Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks by 6 votes over her opponent, Democrat Rita Hart.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced the action this afternoon, saying, “the State Canvassing Board has officially certified the results of the 2020 general election. We had record turnout of more than 1.7 million voters & 76% participation. The official result in #IA02 is @millermeeks 196,964 to @RitaHartIA 196,958. 6 vote difference.”
Rita Hart will likely challenge the outcome in court.
Miller-Meeks was earlier endorsed by outgoing-President Donald Trump, who tweeted, “Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks will do a great job in Congress for Iowa! A Doctor and Veteran, she will Deliver Great Health Care, Defend Life, and Protect your Second Amendment. Mariannette has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Iowa’s four seats in the House of Representatives will now consist of 3 Republicans: Ashley Hinson, in District 1; Miller-Meeks in District 2; and Randy Feenstra in District 4. Democrat Cindy Axne represents District 3.
