Rolfe woman hurt, ticketed, car totaled after blown tire

PALO ALTO COUNTY, IOWA – A Rolfe woman was hurt, ticketed, and her car totaled after a blown tire caused an accident, police say.

On October 2, 2020, the Palo Alto County sheriff’s office was called to investigate a one vehicle accident that occurred in the 4900 block of 510th Avenue. Jane Othus Schnieders of Rolfe, Iowa, was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry north at this location when she felt a passenger side tire blow on the Camry. This caused Schnieders’ vehicle to fishtail on the gravel, enter the west ditch where it collided with the ditch embankment causing it to roll, coming to rest on its wheels.

Schnieders was transported to the Palo Alto County hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident. The vehicle was deemed a total loss in the accident. Schnieders was issued a citation for Failure to Wear Seat Belt.

The Palo Alto County sheriff’s office was assisted by the Mallard First Responders and the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service.
