OBIT: Sylvia Frascht, 90, of Charles City

Sylvia Frascht, 90, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A public visitation limited to ten people at a time will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the start of the service on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with social distancing being monitored by the funeral home staff. The family understands in this unknown time with the COVID-19 pandemic that attending her visitation may not be in your best interest. Please be with us in prayer.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family funeral service will be held at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Leeper from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 23, 2020. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, Iowa.

Sylvia Nadine (Schoneman) Frascht was born on November 22, 1929 in New Hartford, Iowa to John Menken and Kate Teresa (Bauman) Schoneman. With nine siblings family was important. She attended country school and later Alison Bristow School. She married Russell Edward Frascht on February 10, 1950, making their home on a farm outside of Nashua. To this union were born Scott, Debra, and Craig. She worked at Hinson in Waterloo and Salisbury Laboratory. Sylvia was a proud farm wife and instilled hard work and importance of family in her children.

Sylvia was an avid gardener and quilter making quilts for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of baking with her grandchildren and great grandchildren after sending hard copied recipes home with them.

She and Russell spent winters in Alamo, Texas at Winter Ranch. In later years Sylvia and Russell moved to Charles City where she continued her love of gardening, quilting, baking and canning.

She was preceded in death by their infant son, Craig; her parents, and her four brothers and four sisters.

Sylvia’s memory will be kept alive by her husband of 70 years, Russell; her children: Scott (Ann) Frascht and Debra (Vic) Beine; grandchildren: James (Michele) Anderson, Luke Anderson, Nik Anderson, Mary (Bill) Newgard, and Seth Frascht; five great grandchildren; and brother, Randall Schoneman.
