Frederick “Fred” Miller, 85, of Charles City

Frederick “Fred” Miller, 85, of Charles City, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with his loving family by his side.

A funeral service for Fred Miller will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Frederick Alan Miller was born December 25, 1934 in Charles City, Iowa to Victor and Helen (Horn) Miller. He grew up on a farm in rural Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1953.

On August 13, 1955 Frederick was united in marriage to Patricia Meyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota.

To this union three children were born: Kenneth, Steven and Susan. Fred worked for Triangle Feed and Grain and later opening Miller’s DX Filling Station in Charles City with his brother Dale. He then worked for Allied Ready Mix until his retirement. Fred enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and took many trips with them. He also liked spending time at the cabin in Spirit Lake and his yearly fishing trips to Canada.

Fred was a lifetime member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Living family members include his wife of 64 years, Patty Miller of Charles City; sons, Kenneth (Julie) Miller of Charles City and Steven (Natasha) Miller of Rogers, Arkansas; daughter, Susan (Blake) Dietrich of Britt; grandchildren: David, Amy, Sally, Jacob, and Landon; great grandchildren: Katelyn, Wesley, Alyson, Joey, Jadis, Jadalyn, Davion, Jahdiel, and Summer; sisters-in-law, Sandy Miller and Emily Miller; along with nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Helen Miller; brothers, Martin Miller and Dale Miller; and sister-in-law, Kay Meyer Shepley.
