Women’s College Basketball: ISU nets league-high seven on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

IRVING, Texas – The Iowa State women’s basketball team placed seven student-athletes on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 team. The Cyclones’ Adriana Camber, Nia Washington, Madison Wise, Ines Nezerwa, Morgan Kane and Maddie Frederick were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team, with Ashley Joens earning a spot on the second team.

Camber and Washington earned their third appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 First-Team. Camber, a senior finance and management major, has started 20 games for the Cyclones and is averaging a career-best 6.7 points and 3.9 rebounds, while knocking down a team-high 46 triples. Washington, who is a biology major, has appeared in 15 games this season and has gone 3-of-6 from 3-point land, while dishing five assists.

Wise is making her second appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 list. Wise is a marketing major and has averaged 3.1 points for the Cyclones, while appearing in 15 games. She also is averaging 3.1 boards per game.

A trio of Cyclones made the team for the first time in their career, as Nezerwa, Kane and Frederick, were honored for their work in the classroom. Nezerwa is a senior liberal studies major who has appeared in all 25 games for Iowa State this season, averaging 6.8 points and 3.9 boards. Frederick is an accounting major and a redshirt freshman. Frederick is one of just four women’s basketball players in the league to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA. Kane, who is a kinesiology major, has tallied 19 appearances for Iowa State on the year.

Mills and Wise earned academic honors for the first time in their careers. Mills has appeared in eight games for the Cyclones this season as a biology major. Wise has started all 27 games for Iowa State and is averaging 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Wise is a sophomore business major.

Iowa State’s seven Academic All-Big 12 honorees was first in the Big 12 Conference. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second-team members have a GPA of 3.00 or better.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when they take on Kansas State in Manhattan on Big 12 Now.
