UNI Swim and Dive Takes Fifth at MVC Championships

COLUMBIA, Missouri – The MVC Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up Saturday night. UNI finished in fifth place with a score of 445.

Katie Taylor claimed first in the 200 back with a time of 1:56.72, becoming a three time champion in that event. Moriah Ross got second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:14.23, while Mia Savicevic took fourth with a time of 2:17.33.

Kylie Engstrom took sixth in the 1650 free (17:11.14), Anna Penning got eighth in the 3 meter dive (205.20), and the 400 free relay placed fifth (3:27.69).

Other top finishes for the Panthers in the MVC Championships include a title for Ross in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.12. Ross also took second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.12. Taylor had a couple of second place finishes in the 100 back (54.08), and the 200 IM (2:01.47).

The 800 free relay (7:26.59) claimed second place, while the 200 medley relay (1:41.94), and the 400 medley relay (3:44.91) both got third.

UNI got fifth in team scoring with 445 points behind Missouri State (826.50), Southern Illinois (603), Indiana State (539.50), and Illinois State (454). Following the Panthers was Evansville (272), Little Rock (216), and Valparaiso (127).

Taylor and Ross were named to the All-Conference First Team List. All-Conference Honorable Mention includes Engstrom, Helena Heuberger, Jordan McCullough, Penning, Savicevic, Sydney Schmidt, and Sarah Walpole. Schmidt was also named Freshman Diver of the Year.
