Iowa Senate seeks Constitutional amendment declaring no abortion rights

Iowa capitol
DES MOINES – The Iowa Senate is seeking a Constitutional amendment declaring no abortion rights.

This past week, on a 32-18 party-line vote dominated by Republicans, the Iowa Senate passed a resolution that would amend the Iowa Constitution to declare there is no right to an abortion in the state.

The bill states that the Iowa Constitution shall “not be construed to recognize, grant or secure a right to abortion or to require the public funding of abortion.”

If the measure, which must still pass the Iowa House, passes the full Legislature in each of the next two years, Iowa voters will get a chance to decide the outcome.

There were 3,269 abortions performed in Iowa in 2017, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Abortion for rape, incest, or to save the mothers life. Other than that, with all of the means out there to prevent pregnancy, abortions should be a thing of the past. Any woman who spreads her legs and does not use a birth control device or who does not demand that her partner use one deserves what she gets.

I agreed with you up to your last sentence then you turned into a dick. Vasectomies should be mandatory for all men who don’t want to be a father.

Someone like you would disagree. There is no excuse with all the birth control available and a lot of it is free. Some of these women have babies just so they can collect money from the taxpayers.

It has to be fair for both. BIrth control is not just a woman’s decision.

Which is why I said that if she does not use a birth control method, she should demand that her partner does, if he’s too stupid not to use one in the first place. Personally I believe in using a condom whether the woman says she uses b/c or not. A lot of women out there are just waiting for some dumb man to get them pregnant so they can suck off that welfare and child support.

some things are nobody else’s fING business

Guess we get to pay for another lawsuit that will once again result in a decision that tells our legislators that you can’t do that. When will they learn?
