Sounds like the bicyclist got what he deserved. You take a chance, you pay the price.
Not many people ride a bicycle, on a highway, at night. If I see a rider at night on the highway. I assume they are either poor, mentally ill, drunk, or a triathlete. So I give them all a wide berth.
So I don’t have to read about another bicyclist being killed on the highway in the dark. Target and Walmart sell very inexpensive flashing red Iights made for bicycles. If a person cannot afford one maybe some county agency, bicycle group, church, or Highway Patrol would give them away. It would be a lot cheaper than the cost of cleaning up the accident scene. It would also keep some truck driver from having to keep seeing the accident over in his mind.
Did the guy on the bike have lights and reflective coat/vest? Was he in the middle of the road, like so many bicyclists? Was the bike rider even sober(both meanings(not drunk and not”high”))?
Here’s a tip, don’t ride bicycles on the highway.
