Two arrested in Worth county after deputies nearly run down by driver with open container of booze

WORTH COUNTY – Two people were arrested in Worth county after two deputies were nearly run down by a Mason City driver with an open container of booze.

On December 25, 2019 at approximately 7:40 PM, two Worth County deputies were on a traffic stop at Highway 65 and 450th St. While on this stop the deputies were almost hit by a southbound vehicle.

A traffic stop was conducted on that vehicle on Highway 65 at 430th Street. Upon further investigation, the driver, 63-year-old Michael Stumpe of Mason City, IA was arrested and charged with open container and possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger of the vehicle, 62-year-old Tamara Hakes of Hanlontown, Iowa was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) – 1st offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff’s office says this incident is still being investigated and more charges are possible.
