Northern Iowa man charged with attempted murder after firing shots during bar fight

ELGIN, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man is charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing shots during a bar fight.

On December 29, 2019, at approximately 2:00 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of suspicious activity near the Elgin Tap in Elgin, Iowa. Fayette County sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and conducted an investigation. Investigation showed in the early morning hours of December 29, a physical fight ensued at the Elgin Tap followed by an individual shooting a firearm at another individual outside the bar. After multiple interviews, a search warrant and arrest warrant were executed at a residence outside Elgin. Wyatt Aubrey Guyer, age 25 of Elgin was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent, a Class C Felony, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Assault with a Firearm, and Assault with Intent to inflict Serious Injury, Aggravated Misdemeanors. Guyer was taken into custody without incident and no injuries were reported from the incident.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa State Patrol.

If convicted Guyer could face up to 49 years in prison. He is being held in the Fayette County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
