IOWA CITY – A sellout crowd enjoyed an easy Iowa victory on Sunday over Kennesaw State, 93-51.
Iowa had powerful post players in Luka Garza, Ryan Kriener, and Cordell Pemsl who tallied 51 points in the game for the Hawkeyes. Iowa shot a season-best 60% (39-of-65) from the floor.
Iowa has won five of its last six games, including four straight dating back to Dec. 9. The active four-game win streak matches a season best.
The Hawkeyes finished their nonconference portion of their schedule with nine victories in 11 games.
Luka Garza led the Hawkeyes with 23 points, topping the 20-point plateau for the eighth time this season and 20th time in his career. The junior center also controlled a game-best eight rebounds.
Luka Garza (9-of-11), Ryan Kriener (9-of-9), Joe Wieskamp (8-of-12) were a combined 26-of-32 (.812) from the field tonight against Kennesaw State. Kriener netted a career-high 20 points.
Starting his second game as a Hawkeye, true freshman Joe Toussaint posted personal bests in assists (7) and steals (5) to go along with six points.
Iowa registered season highs in steals (14), assists (27), and blocked shots (8).
Today was Iowa’s first sellout crowd of the season (15,056).
Iowa resumes conference play on Jan. 4, traveling to Philadelphia to face nationally-ranked Penn State (11-2, 1-1). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. (CT) at the Palestra. The game will be televised nationally on BTN and broadcast on the Hawkeye Radio Network.
