Charles City man hospitalized after vehicle enters icy river

MASON CITY – A Charles City man was hospitalized after he lost control of his vehicle in Mason City and it rolled into an icy river.

A 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee being operated by 18-year-old Gael Salcedo of Charles City was traveling north on County Road S-56. He encountered a snow covered patch of roadway just south of the bridge in that area. This caused him to loose control of the vehicle and travel into the east ditch. Momentum caused the vehicle to travel over the embankment and into the river. Salcedo was then rescued by the Mason City Fire Department. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of collision. He was transported to Mercy Hospital for evaluation, where he was treated and released.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mason City Fire Department.
