CEDAR FALLS – The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team overcame 14 points from former Mason City Mohawk Megan Meyer and used a 7-1 opening game run to top the Iowa Hawkeyes, 88-66 Sunday.
This is the first loss for Iowa against Northern Iowa since 2006. UNI (4-0) led Iowa (2-1) the entire game after building a 9-point lead in the first quarter.
Senior Makenzie Meyer led the Hawkeyes with 14 points on 4-16 shooting and three assists. Senior Amanda Ollinger tallied 10 rebounds to lead Iowa, a career best. Freshman Megan Meyer logged under 2 minutes in the game.
The Hawkeyes host Princeton in Iowa City, Iowa, on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Panthers next host DII NW Missouri State next Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. at the McLeod Center.
