Veterans Day Assembly planned at Lincoln Intermediate in Mason City

Lincoln School
MASON CITY – A Veterans Day Assembly is planned at Lincoln Intermediate in Mason City next month.

On November 11, 2019, students at Lincoln Intermediate will be celebrating Veterans Day by having an assembly honoring those who have served in our military during war-time and peace-time. The assembly, which starts at 1:30 PM, is open to any community members and their spouses that have served in the military. Doors will open at 1:00 PM for guest seating. A special invitation is extended to parents, grandparents and siblings of our Lincoln Intermediate student body and staff. Lincoln Intermediate requests that if you plan to attend, please contact the school office (641-421-4423) so adequate seating can be provided. Family members that wish to attend may either sit with their child, or sit in chairs in the reserved seating section on the Lincoln Intermediate gymnasium floor.

The assembly will feature special speaker Mayor Bill Schickel. He will be sharing a theme of “What Can Children Do to Show Patriotism”. The entire student body will be singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America”. A video will be presented that will describe the origins of Veterans Day, and will give the background of the Armistice treaty that was signed 100 years ago this year. A special video montage of several family members of students currently in the military describing their career in the armed services will be presented. The conclusion of the assembly will feature a rifle salute given by members of our own Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and taps performed by our Lincoln Intermediate trumpet players.
