Swerving to avoid deer sends car with 5 people inside tumbling near Worth county casino

RURAL WORTH COUNTY – A driver apparently swerved to avoid a deer on a road near Worth county’s Diamond Jo Casino, but the move sent the vehicle tumbling into a ditch.

On October 1, 2019 at 11:45 PM, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 of a vehicle in the ditch in the curve west of Wheelerwood Rd on Hwy 105. Another call came in shortly after informing dispatch there was a passenger ejected from the vehicle. Deputies arrived on scene and the vehicle was in a drainage ditch and had rolled multiple time before coming to rest. There were five occupants in the vehicle. Four of the five occupants had none life threatening injuries. One was transported by ambulance. The rest wished to seek medical treatment on their own.

The cause of the accident was due to the driver swerving for a deer that ran out in front of them.

Assisting the Worth County Sheriff’s Office was Iowa State Patrol, Northwood Fire Department, Mason City Fire Department, and Lake Mills Ambulance.
