Iowa man caught and arrested in Waverly basement after 2-day pursuit

WAVERLY – An Iowa man led police on a 2-day pursuit out of Black Hawk county before he was finally caught hiding in a Waverly woman’s basement.

On August 14, 2019 at approximately 6:10 PM, a pursuit began in Black Hawk County that lasted around 30 minutes. The pursuit ended with the suspect vehicle on fire near the bike trail on 39th Street SE Waverly. The suspects fled on foot prompting multiple area agencies to conduct a search of the area. The search ended when the suspects had not been located after several hours. Law enforcement continued to check houses and respond to possible tips.

On August 15, 2019 at approximately 10:48 AM, a citizen reported seeing a suspicious adult male and female walking south in the 2400 block of Grand Ave. Bremer County Deputies responded and quickly located the female by herself. She was detained and a subsequent search began for the male suspect. Multiple agencies set up a perimeter spanning from Garden Ave to Hilton Ave. Iowa State Patrol aircraft and Waverly K9 were utilized in the search. At approximately 12:45 pm a home owner arrived to her residence in the 2400 block of Hilton Ave. Before her entering, law enforcement searched the residence as a precaution and located the male suspect hiding in the basement of the home.

Jeffrey Allen Geiger, 31 of Voorhies, Iowa, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bremer County Jail. Geiger has been charged with 3rd degree burglary (D felony) and 5th degree theft (simple misdemeanor). Geiger is being held on a $5,300 bond and the female was not charged. Additional charges may be filed.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Waverly Police Department, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Denver Police Department, Janesville Police Department, Bremer County Dispatch, Black Hawk Dispatch and Iowa State Patrol Communications.
