College Basketball: Hawkeyes crack top 25 in game attendance for 34th time overall

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa men’s basketball team ranked 23rd nationally in attendance, averaging 12,869 fans at its 18 home contests in 2018-19. It is the seventh straight season that Iowa has ranked in the top 30 in the national attendance and the 34th time in the top 25.

As a conference, the 14 Big Ten schools averaged 12,691 fans to lead in the nation in average attendance for a 43rd consecutive season. More than three million fans witnessed Big Ten games in person throughout the course of the 2018-19 season. Iowa was one of 10 Big Ten schools to rank in the top 25 nationally in 2018-19.

Iowa ranked among the national leaders in home attendance in four sports during the 2018-19 season. The Iowa wrestling program led the country in attendance at home events for the 13th straight year in 2018-19, averaging 8,526 fans per home dual. Hawkeye football ranked 24th in the country, averaging 63,142 in seven home contests. Women’s basketball ranked ninth nationally, averaging 6,665 fans, while Hawkeye football ranked 21st in the country in home attendance, averaging 68,043 fans at Kinnick Stadium.
