Police suggest missing Mason City woman’s body found in Marshalltown field

MARSHALLTOWN – Police on Monday suggested that a missing Mason City woman’s body was found that morning in a field near a Marshalltown Walmart.

On Monday, April 15, 2019, at 9:07 a.m., the Marshalltown Police Department received a report of a discovered corpse in a farm field just east of Walmart (2800 block of South Center Street). Upon arrival, law enforcement located the body of what appears to be an adult, female. The identity of the body cannot be confirmed at this time. Preliminary information suggests this could be the body of Michelle Marie Grommet, age 32, of Mason City, Iowa. Ms. Grommet was reported to the Marshalltown Police Department as a missing person on March 22.

At this time, there is no evidence or information known to investigators that suggests foul play is associated with this death. The manner and cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is completed. The Marshalltown Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the discovery of this body and the Grommet missing person case. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason City Police Department have also assisted with this investigation.
