NIACC women’s golf team places 2nd at Simpson

INDIANOLA – The NIACC women’s golf team placed second at the Simpson College Invitational on Wednesday.

NIACC shot a season-best 388 at the Indianola Country Club. The Lady Trojans opened their season with a 396 last week in a dual meet against Mount Mercy University.

“This was a test of will (Wednesday),” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. “I’m proud of how they battled some really tough weather conditions.

“Winds were 25-30 mph and temperatures continued to drop throughout the day.”

Graceland University was the team champion with a 374. DMACC was third with a 390 and Southwestern CC was fourth with a 393.

NIACC was led by sophomore Ashley Alert with a 47-40 87, which was third in the individual medalist competition. Southwestern’s Bianca Finley was the individual medalist with a 80.

“I was very pleased with Ashley (Wednesday),” Frenz said. “She’s really striking the ball well.”

Also for the Lady Trojans, Sydney Fullerton shot a 49-50 – 99, Morgan Luecht shot a 49-51 – 100 and Jordyn Barragy shot a 49-53 – 102.

“They didn’t think their scores were very good, but they found that it was tough out there for everyone,” Frenz said.

NIACC returns to action Sunday and Monday at the Iowa Central Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

“We’ll clean up some mistakes and continue to get better for the regional tournament,” Frenz said.

Team standings – Graceland University 374, NIACC 388, DMACC 390, Southwestern 393, Simpson College 392, Waldorf University 397, Iowa Wesleyan 438.
