TULSA, OK – Iowa State was a trendy dark horse pick to make some noise in this year’s NCAA Tournament, but the Big 12 Champs were quickly bounced out by a gritty Ohio State team from the Big 10, losing 62-59.
Iowa State (23-12) (a #6 seed) lost to Ohio State (20-14) (a #11 seed), 62-59, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday evening in a very close game that saw Ohio State snag 12 offensive rebounds. These second-chance attempts were enough to derail the Cyclones, who got close but couldn’t overcome the Buckeyes.
Marial Shayok led Iowa State with 23 points. His basket with just 3 minutes and change left in the game put Iowa State ahead 54-53 and the game looked to be tipping the Cyclones’ way. But Ohio State was unfazed as they got ahead on a 5-0 run from there and never looked back.
