Meyer leads Iowa past Mercer with five 3-pointers in NCAA Tournament first round

IOWA CITY – Former Mason City Mohawk Mackenzie Meyer led Iowa past Mercer with five 3-pointers in a women’s NCAA Tournament first round game Friday in Iowa City.

Senior Megan Gustafson registered her 86th career double-double. It is her 31st double-double of the season.

Senior Hannah Stewart registered her second career double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She netted eight points and pulled down five rebounds in the fourth quarter.

Gustafson broke the Big Ten record for points in a single season, besting Rachel Banham’s (Minnesota) previous mark of 917 set in 2015-16. Gustafson has 927 points this season.

Gustafson also break the Big Ten record for rebounds in a single season, surpassing Amanda Zahui B’s previous mark of 426 set in 2014-15. Gustafson has 440 rebounds this season.

MEYER

Junior Makenzie Meyer – a former Mason City Mohawk star – tied a career-high with five 3-pointers.  She finished the game with 16 points, 3 assists and 5 turnovers.

Iowa improved 16-0 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena this season. The Hawkeyes have won 20 straight games in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, dating back to last season.

The Hawkeyes will play seventh-seeded Missouri on Sunday.
