Women’s college basketball: No. 19 Cyclones to play No. 1 Baylor for Big 12 Title Monday night

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 19 Iowa State women’s basketball team (25-7, 13-5 Big 12) will take on No. 1 Baylor (30-1, 18-0 Big 12) for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship title Monday night tonight at 8 p.m. at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Once again, the contest will be televised on FS1. ISU will be looking to claim its third Big 12 Women’s Basketball tournament title and its first since 2001.

Iowa State earned its 24th win of the season against Kansas in the quarterfinals, marking the first time the Cyclones have reached 24 wins in a season since 2012-13.
Senior Bridget Carleton was named the Big 12 Player of the Year on Wednesday by the league’s coaches. Carleton is averaging a league-leading 21.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. She is the first Cyclone in school history to earn Big 12 Player of the Year honors.

Iowa State beat Texas Sunday to reach the championship game.

ISU checks in at No. 19 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll after going 2-0 last week and moving into second in the Big 12 standings. Iowa State ranks No. 12 in the latest RPI projections and is ranked No. 3 in strength of schedule. ISU is also ranked No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. In the second NCAA Top-16 reveal the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee put Iowa State at 14th overall, making them a No. 4 seed in the Chicago Regional.
