OBIT: Verna O. Anderson

Verna O. Anderson, 91, Marshalltown and formerly of Mason City, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
A celebration of life will be held 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd street NE, Mason City, with Rev. Sid Bohls officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 122 West, Mason City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service times on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL, Memphis, TN, 38105.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Verna O. Anderson was born on January 17, 1927, in Tripp, South Dakota, daughter of Arthur E. and Adina (Bietz) Brosz. Verna attended school in Tripp, South Dakota and then went to Sioux Falls to become a switch board operator where she met Glenn.

She was united in marriage to Glenn Anderson on June 6, 1948, in Tripp, South Dakota, and to this union two children were born Michael and Jeffrie. Verna lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Fort Dodge before moving to Mason City in 1955. Verna worked for Cliftons and Hy-Vee grocery stores in Mason City.
Verna enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling with her husband Glenn around the country, wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona and camping with their sons.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City, was on different women’s groups at the church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michael (Linda) Anderson of Marshalltown, and Jeffrie (Beth) Anderson of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Jill (Mike) Rericha, Kirby (Dawn) Knudtson, and Christopher Anderson; five great grandchildren, Paige Roney, Teyannah, Raevyn, and Khiya Knudtson, and Marten Anderson; great great grandson, Briggs, son of Paige Roney; two brothers, Melvin (Mary) Brosz of Dallas, TX and Roland Brosz of Mason City, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gerhart Brosz.
