OBIT: Gene Squier, 85, of Charles City

Gene Squier, 85, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, December, 4, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service for Gene Squier will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Rockford with Pastor Dennis Burns officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December, 9, 2018 at Hauser Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Gene Arnold Squier, the son of Merle and Mildred (Marchant) Squier, was born on February 25, 1933 in Rockford, Iowa. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1951. Gene was in the United States Army during the Korean War serving with the 101st Airborne Division. On February 3, 1957 he was united in marriage to Carol Greenman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Gene worked for the railroad, Rockford Brick and Tile, Fareway Grocery in Mason City, and 38 years at White Farm. He was a member of the VFW, United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and a Mason. Gene was an avid gardener and loved to be outside tending to his flowers and vegetables. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, golf, tennis, basketball, and softball. He enjoyed raising birds, going to shows and competitions with pigeons and spent his free time watching his roller pigeons in action.

Living family members include his two daughters: Jean Marie Ratliff and Lori “Dew” Ann Squier; two sons: Randy and Monte; grandchildren: Melanie (Dalton) Vaske, Jeremy (Kylee) Ratliff, Dennis (Nicole) Griffin, and Travis Griffin; great-grandchildren: Calab, Chloe, Sophie, Oaklee, Noah, Dawson, Kayla, Mya, Makenna, Lilah, Justin, and Jamie; brother, Dan Squier; and special friends: Gayle Uker, Randy Boggess, and Dave Holtz; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Mildred Squier; wife, Carol Squier; son-in-law, Wayne Ratliff; brother, Ron (Margaret) Squier; sister, Nancy Moore; baby brother, Ned; and niece, Ronda Squier.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to St. Croix Hospice and their nursing team for their loving care they gave Gene.
