OBIT: James A. “Jim” Hahn

James A. “Jim” Hahn, 74 of Mason City, died peacefully Monday (December 3, 2018) at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

A visitation with public viewing will be held Wednesday (December 5, 2018) from 4 pm until 7 pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City.

A private funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2018.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Jim’s name to Hospice of North Iowa.

James Allen Hahn was born on Christmas Eve, 1943 in Spencer, Iowa. The son of Jack and Maxine (Shouse) Kabrick, he attended school in Mitchell, South Dakota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating in 1961. Following high school Jim enlisted in the United States Navy where he faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War, serving on the Westpac Tour. He was stationed on the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier.

During Jim’s time in the Navy he met Mairead Livingood while they both worked in the E Ring at the United States Pentagon. They were united in marriage on February 25, 1967 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. Together they would be blessed with two children, Michelle and Jason.

In 1967 Jim and Mairead returned to Mason City and Jim joined his father, Jack, at Kabrick Distributing. Throughout the years Jim was proud to watch the business grow, through his work ethic and dedication the company prospered. Jim fostered many meaningful friendships and business associates along the way.

In his free time Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and snowmobiling, oftentimes he could be found on the golf course or watching NASCAR in his man cave. He was a past member of the Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributor Association with Kabrick Distributing, the Mason City VFW, the Eagles, and the Mason City Country Club.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Mairead Hahn, Mason City; children, Michelle (Shane) Blunt and their children, Lindzie (Matt) Wyborny, Kobe Roth, Jordan, Parker, and Gage Blunt, Jason Hahn and Penny Olsen, Mason City, and his son, JJ Hahn; his great grandchildren, Brody and Charlee; as well as his nieces, nephews and extended relatives and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Sandy Marnell, and Kenneth Hahn.

Jim’s family would like to thank the caregivers of the Nora Springs Care Center and Hospice of North Iowa for their exceptional care given to Jim in the last months.
