MASON CITY – Two men not from North Iowa were arrested Monday, accused of stealing two lawnmowers from a local retailer and in possession of meth.
At 4:20 a.m. Monday morning, officers were called to Mills Fleet Farm, 3200 4th Street S.W., on a report a theft in progress of a lawn mower from in front of the store. The suspects left the scene in a large moving van prior to officers arriving. An officer with the Clear Lake police department stopped the vehicle on Interstate 35.
Two men were detained and two lawn mowers were located in the truck. One of the mowers had been stolen from Mills Fleet Farm and was valued at $1700.00. Also found in the truck was a bolt cutter and what is believed to be methamphetamine.
Arrested were:
Calvin Jerome Lacey (44) of Chicago, Illinois; charged with 2nd degree theft, class D felony and possession of a theft detection removal device, serious misdemeanor.
Charles Edward Ross (54) of Des Moines, Iowa; also charged with 2nd degree theft, possession of a theft detection device as well as possession of methamphetamine, serious misdemeanor.
The case is still under investigation and more charges are likely.
