ELDRIDGE, IOWA – An Iowa boy was jailed after bringing a loaded handgun to a junior high school Friday morning.
At approximately 8:30 AM on Friday, August 31, the Eldridge, Iowa Police Department was called to North Scott Jr. High in reference to a student with a handgun. Officers took a 12-year-old boy into custody and a .22 caliber handgun was recovered. The firearm was loaded but no shots were fired during the incident.
Police say a female Jr. High teacher is being credited with disarming the student before police arrived on scene. The school was placed on lock down while officers investigated.
The 12-year-old male student is being charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony and Carrying Weapons on School Grounds, a Class D Felony. He is currently being held in the Scott County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and more details will be released later.
