WORTH COUNTY – A Worth county deputy was nearly struck by a drunk driver and the culprit was chased down by the fearless law enforcement officer and arrested on several charges, the sheriff’s office says.
On August 23, 2018 at approximately 2:19 AM, a deputy with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Chevrolet Venture for nearly striking him while he was conducting another stop and for stopping in the middle of the roadway. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was being driven on the rim of the front passenger side tire and the vehicle was likely recently in the ditch as there was grass on and stuck in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Contreras Garcia of Titonka, Iowa, was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated, Open Container, No Insurance, Reckless Driving, Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle, and Unsafe Stopping.
