Disconnected citizens can now figure out who their council person is in Mason City

MASON CITY – Mason City residents, many of whom pay little attention after years of being shunned at council meetings, hassles at city hall, and alleged malfeasance by elected officials, can now use a computer to find who their Council Member is and what ward they reside in instead of actually being engaged citizens who participate in city government.

Residents can visit the City’s website at www.masoncity.net and click on ‘Find Your Ward’ under the Residents tab. This search feature is also located under the ‘Your Government’ tab in the ‘Mayor and City Council’ section.

Once you click on the link to the page, type in your address. The search result will pinpoint the location of your address on the map along with a pop-up box providing information of the Ward number as well as the name, phone number and email address of the Council Member representing the Ward. A photograph of your Council Member is also included in this information box.

The Council Members for the individual Wards in Mason City are First Ward John Lee, Second Ward Will Symonds, Third Ward Joshua Masson and Fourth Ward John Jaszewski. There are two At-Large Council Members that represent the entire City, Paul Adams and Tom Thoma.

Councilman John Lee said via social media, the service is “a new aspect to Mason City’s web page. Many times people have asked me who their specific ward representative is, or even what ward they live in. Here is now a link that you can type in your address and it will tell you the ward and who is your ward councilperson and the two at-large representatives.”

One Mason City resident chimed in, saying, “we here in Mason City quit paying attention a long time ago.  We don’t vote because the fix is in anyway.  All our money is spent downtown so what does it matter.  Everyone knows the real rulers aren’t elected, they are a few dozen feet away in the fancy Frank Lloyd Wright taxpayer-built building with the flags out front.”
