Public hearing scheduled in Mason City for over $5 million in General Obligation bonds

MASON CITY – City Hall in Mason City plans to issue up to $5.2 million and $350,000 in General Obligation bonds for city improvements.

Up to $5.2 million in General Obligation bonds (backed by property tax payers) will be considered by the council for essential corporate purposes, to provide funds to pay the costs of equipping the police and fire departments, improvements at the City airport; the construction, reconstruction, and repairing of any street or highway improvements; the construction, acquisition, installation, and repair of sidewalks, trails, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water service lines, street lighting, and traffic control devices, and the acquisition of any real estate needed for any of the foregoing purposes; and the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, improvement, repair and equipping of the waterworks system, including the acquisition and installation of water meters.

The public hearing is scheduled for June 19 and will take place at a city council meeting. The public will be offered a chance to give oral feedback to the council; they do not respond to questions at that forum, however.

NOTICE OF MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MASON CITY, STATE OF IOWA, ON THE MATTER OF THE PROPOSED ISSUANCE OF NOT TO EXCEED $5,200,000 GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS OF THE CITY (FOR ESSENTIAL CORPORATE PURPOSES), AND THE HEARING ON THE ISSUANCE THEREOF

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Mason City, State of Iowa, will hold a public hearing on the 19th day of June, 2018, at 7:00 P.M., in the Mason City Room of the Mason City Public Library, 225 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa, at which meeting the Council proposes to take additional action for the issuance of not to exceed $5,200,000 General Obligation Bonds, for essential corporate purposes, to provide funds to pay the costs of equipping the police and fire departments, improvements at the City airport; the construction, reconstruction, and repairing of any street or highway improvements; the construction, acquisition, installation, and repair of sidewalks, trails, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water service lines, street lighting, and traffic control devices, and the acquisition of any real estate needed for any of the foregoing purposes; and the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, improvement, repair and equipping of the waterworks system, including the acquisition and installation of water meters.

At the above meeting the Council shall receive oral or written objections from any resident or property owner of the City to the above action. After all objections have been received and considered, the Council will at the meeting or at any adjournment thereof, take additional action for the issuance of the Bonds or will abandon the proposal to issue said Bonds.

This notice is given by order of the City Council of the City of Mason City, State of Iowa, as provided by Section 384.25 of the Code of Iowa.

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Mason City, State of Iowa, will hold a public hearing on the 19th day of June, 2018, at 7:00 P.M., in the Mason City Room of the Mason City Public Library, 225 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa, at which meeting the Council proposes to take additional action for the issuance of not to exceed $350,000 General Obligation Bonds, for general corporate purposes, bearing interest at a rate of not to exceed nine (9) per centum per annum, the Bonds to be issued to provide funds to pay the costs of improvements at the museum; equipping the City cemetery; equipping the safety department; equipping the City airport, including vehicle and equipment acquisitions; and equipping the transit department, including transit rolling stock and design study costs.

At any time before the date of the meeting, a petition, asking that the question of issuing such Bonds be submitted to the legal voters of the City, may be filed with the Clerk of the City in the manner provided by Section 362.4 of the Code of Iowa, pursuant to the provisions of Section 384.26 of the Code of Iowa.
At the above meeting the Council shall receive oral or written objections from any resident or property owner of the City to the above action. After all objections have been received and considered, the Council will at the meeting or at any adjournment thereof, take additional action for the issuance of the Bonds or will abandon the proposal to issue said Bonds.
