RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider survived an alleged intoxicated ride and crash Friday evening in rural Cerro Gordo county.
On May 25th, 2018 at 9:28 PM, Cerro Gordo County Deputies reponded to a motorcycle collision at the intersection of 120th and Balsam Avenue, just north of Meservey. Upon arrival, it was found that the driver, 48-year-old Shawn Lane of Thornton, was westbound on 120th Street when he lost control of his 2012 Harley-Davidson and slid into the ditch.
Lane had only minor injuries and his motorcycle sustained minor damage, the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office said, and he did not require medical treatment.
However, further investigation into the incident by deputies found that Lane was intoxicated. He was subesequently charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, a serious midemeanor; operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, a simple misedemeanor; and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, a simple midemeanor.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Thornton and Meservey Fire Departments.
Alcohol and motorcycles don’t mix.
never figured out why someone would go out and get drunk and then get on a bike. might as well go to the top of city center and jump off the roof, you have just as much protection from getting hurt.
