Two people hurt in auto crash Wednesday evening in rural Cerro Gordo county

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Two people were hurt in an auto crash Wednesday evening in rural Cerro Gordo county.

On May 23, 2018, at about 7:40 pm, Cerro Gordo County Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 310th Street and Eagle Avenue. Deputies conducted an investigation at the scene, where two people were injured. A 1999 Chevrolet Suberban was southbound on Eagle Avenue when a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 entered the intersection after not stopping for a posted stop sign. The Suberban and Ram truck collided in the intersection, causing the Suberban to enter the SW ditch.

Both vehicles sustained major damage.

The driver of the Suberban, Kristina Hand, 35, of Fertile received minor injuries from the accident. The passenger in the Suberban, Taylor Price, 26, sustained serious but non life threatening injuries. Both Hand and Price were taken to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. The driver of the Dodge truck, Joel Elsbury, 53, of Mason City, was not injured. Elsbury has been cited for failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Mason City, Clear Lake, and Hanlontown Fire Departments.
