NIACC’s Boerjan shoots second-day 77

Ben Boerjan
FOLEY, Ala. – The NIACC men’s golf team shot a 334 on day two of the NJCAA Division II national tournament Tuesday at the Glenlakes Golf Club.

Boerjan, who prepped at St. Ansgar, led the Trojans with a 39-38 – 77. The freshman now has a two-day total of 75-77 – 152.

“Ben played another solid round (Tuesday),” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. “They had the pins in some tough positions (Tuesday) and he really hung in there and battled.

“He’s showing great poise for a freshman.”

Also for the Trojans on Tuesday, Josh Schaefer shot a 39-41 – 80, Devin Koob shot a 48-40 – 88, Anthony Emanuel shot a 40-49 – 89 and Jordan Voves shot a 45-47 – 92.

Schaefer has a two-day total of 81-80 – 161. Other two-day totals for the Trojans are Koob (80-88 – 188); Emanuel (90-89 – 179) and Voves (87-92 – 179).

“Josh Schaefer is playing well, too,” Frenz said. “He just needs some putts to drop.”

The third round of the tournament is set for Wednesday.

“We need to get better quick,” Frenz said, “and we’ll get after it again (Wednesday).”
