Suspicious deaths being investigated by Iowa law enforcement

BELLE PLAINE, IOWA – Two people are dead, and Iowa investigators and law enforcement or trying to get to the bottom of what happened to them.

On May 4, 2018, at approximately 4:57 AM, the Belle Plaine Police Department responded to the 9th Street railroad crossing reference a train/pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, BPPD located two deceased individuals, an approximately 35-year-old Caucasian female and an approximately 8-year-old Caucasian male. The names of the two decedents will not be released until they have been positively identified and family of the decedents notified. Union Pacific Railroad is cooperating with the investigation.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was asked to assist with the investigation as was the Iowa State Patrol, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Ambulance Service and the Benton County Fire Department.

This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information will be released at this time.
