North Iowa Events Center to offer pool tournament Memorial Day Weekend

North Iowa Events Center

MASON CITY – North Iowa Events Center (NIEC) and Midwest Poolplayers Association (MPA) are partnering to deliver The “Trouble” Tournament: 2018 River City Pool Championships with up to 32 tables coming to the All Seasons Building at North Iowa Events Center in Mason City for open competition this May 24-27, 2018. The event is free to spectators and positioned to compliment all of the great Band Festival activity and celebrations of Mason City heritage and history that occur each Memorial Day weekend. Players of all abilities and ages may compete and no sanctioning is required. Cash will be paid to the top of the field and North Iowa Events Center has added $3,000 to the overall prize pool to help ensure healthy pay-outs for each of the winners.

“Band Festival creates such an exciting time to be in Mason City and North Iowa each year,” said Jason Baumann, General Manager at North Iowa Events Center. “Given the nature of this celebration’s origin and themes, a glaring component missing from all of the activity has been pool, until now. We’ve enjoyed an enthusiastic response already and trust this event to grow as NIEC looks forward to building it on an annual basis moving forward.”

The singles 8-ball tournament will start on Thursday, May 24 at 7pm (5pm check-in) with play continuing through Friday. Individual players may enter for as little as $60. The 5-person 8-ball team tournament starts Friday, May 25 at 7pm (5pm check-in) with play continuing Saturday, May 26 at 12noon, leaving plenty of time for players and families to enjoy the morning’s downtown parade. Finals will be played on Sunday, May 27. Five-person teams may enter for $250. All events will be played on 7-foot Valley Tables with Championship Ultra Cloth and Red Circle Cue Balls. Tables will be set on Free Play and all entry fees include green fee (no quarters needed!). Food and beverages will be served throughout the event. On-site camping is available through NIEC (641.423.3811) with Holiday Inn Express and Country Inn & Suites also each offering special room rates for tournament participants.

Entry forms are available at the North Iowa Events Center office (9am-4pm Monday through Friday), at NorthIowaEventsCenter.org and MPApool.com. Online registrations will be accepted at MPApool.com until May 17.

This event is sponsored by Holiday Inn Express, Ransom’s Pleazol, Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar, Sportsmans Lounge, Burke’s Bar & Grill and the North Iowa Fair.

MPA representatives will be in Mason City on May 22, 2018 and through the event.

the ‘trouble’ we have in MC is the mindset of the NIEC boards.Do they feel this is a spectator sport.lol.( I thought 8′ tables were regulation) ?

so competing with Tree Town……really dumb day

dont forget the beer, got to have that. i thought NIEC was broke and now they put up $3000 so much for our tax monies

Didn’t you read about the sponsors? They would be the ones putting up the money.

Of course he did not read the story. If he did that he could not be a negative Debbie Downer
