Standoff at house in Cresco ends with arrest and death

CRESCO, IOWA – A standoff at a house in Cresco began with shots fired and ended with the arrest of a man and the discovery of a deceased person.

On March 1, 2018, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was asked to assist the Cresco Police Department with a death investigation. The Cresco Police Department had been called to the area of 700 S. Elm Street at about 1:30 am regarding a shots fired call. Officers arrived and located a subject barricaded in a residence near this location. The Cresco Police Department and Iowa State Patrol negotiated with this individual for several hours and were able to take him into custody without incident. Officers then located the deceased individual inside the residence. This investigation is on-going.

Names of subjects involved are not being released at this time pending the notification of relatives.

The following agencies are assisting in this investigation: Cresco Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
