Charles City sex offender will stand trial in March for alleged murder of Iowa man

NEWTON, IOWA – A convicted Charles City sex offender is accused of the murder of a man in Jasper county, and is scheduled for a March trial in the case.

On July 13, 2017, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest regarding the homicide of Jose Luis C. Ramirez Berber on March 6, 2017. This arrest is a result of a joint investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Charles City Police Department, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Randy Louis Linderman, age 52 from Charles City, Iowa has been charged with Murder in the First Degree. Linderman was taken into custody in Charles City. Linderman was transported and is being held in the Jasper County Jail in Newton, Iowa.

On Monday, March 6, 2017, Ramirez Berber was discovered deceased inside his residence. The residence was located at 4252 Maple Street in rural Jasper County. On March 8, 2017, the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner located in Ankeny, Iowa conducted an autopsy on Ramirez Berber. The autopsy results determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Linderman entered a not-guilty plea in the case on Monday, July 31. He was scheduled for a jury trial set for October 18, 2017.   After court proceedings since then, his latest trial date is set for March 7, 2018.

Linderman is listed as an Iowa sex offender for a 2001 third-degree sexual abuse crime in Floyd county against a female victim over the age of 18.
