Suspicious man arrested at Walmart for inhaling noxious vapors

MASON CITY – A Mason City man found himself on the wrong end of the law a number of times in recent days, ending up behind bars for drunk driving and after  acting suspicious at Walmart.

Mason City police were dispatched on the afternoon of December 29, 2017 to Walmart, 4151 4th Street SW, reference a suspicious subject.  After an investigation, officers arrested 38-year-old Robert Michael McFarland of Mason City on a charge of inhalation of toxic vapors prohibited.  He was jailed and soon released, pending a court date.  He was also charged with interference with official acts on December 30.

Then, on the afternoon of December 31, 2017, McFarland was stopped by the Iowa State Patrol.  After an investigation, McFarland was arrested on charges of second-offense operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts, and failure to maintain control.  He was jailed and soon released, pending a hearing set for January 19.
