Hawkeyes ready for Boston College today in Pinstripe Bowl

NEW YORK – The Iowa Hawkeyes football team is ready to face Boston College today in the Pinstripe Bowl.

The game kicks off at 4:15 PM Central time (televised on ESPN) in New York City’s Yankee Stadium. The Hawkeyes have been in New York since Christmas Eve, seeing the sights in America’s biggest city. On Tuesday, football players and coaches from Iowa and Boston College were at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz takes Iowa to a bowl game for the 15th time in his 18 seasons.

Iowa will have to deal with freshman running back A.J. Dillon from Boston College, a big, burly power runner. However, BC is missing their season-opening quarterback Anthony Brown and all-American defensive lineman Harold Landry to injuries.

“Their team is going through injury issues, so have we, and I think everybody in the country has,” Ferentz told HawkeyeSports.com. “You don’t dwell on that. You try to get guys ready for the next challenge. If there is an upside, and I think there is, is we’ve had a whole month to get guys comfortable in their spots. Hopefully they’ll go out there and compete and do a good job like the guys in front of them have done. The silver lining is it provides an opportunity for a young guy to step up a little bit, and experience is always beneficial as we’ve move forward.”

Iowa brings a top defense to the game with All-Americans Josh Jackson and Josey Jewell leading the way. On offense, Akrum Wadley will carry the ball most of the time.

Iowa finished the season with a dominating win over Nebraska and a 7-5 record overall. The season was highlighted with a home win over Ohio State.

Boston College was also 7-5 and beat Louisville, Virginia and Florida State this season.
