RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – One person is dead after a single-car accident Saturday morning near Swaledale.
A 2008 Chrysler PC was traveling northbound on Jonquil Avenue north of 130th Street (just south of Swaledale) Saturday morning, December 9, around 7:30 AM when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway to the east. The vehicle then entered the ditch and rolled several times, ejecting the driver, who perished as a result of the crash.
Authorities released the name of the deceased person later Saturday. Troy Smeby, age 42, of Swaledale, died in the crash.
The Iowa State Patrol report says the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
