MASON CITY – A felon convicted of violent crimes was caught by police with illegal drugs and a firearm.
A Cerro Gordo county deputy encountered 36-year-old Jose Santos Najera on Thursday, November 23 at about 10:24 PM near Penn Avenue and 4th Street NE in Mason City. After an investigation, the deputy allegedly discovered illegal substances marijuana, and alprazolam. The deputy also allegedly found a firearm and a stolen license plate. As a result, Santos was taken to the county jail on three felony charges (two drug charges and possession of a firearm as a felon) as well as a charge of fifth-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains jailed at this time, awaiting a court hearing.
Najera has a number of domestic abuse convictions.
