HUMBOLDT COUNTY, IOWA – A man shot dead this weekend in Humboldt county by police expressed thoughts of suicide by cop to family members, authorities say.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has identified the subject shot by an Iowa Department of Natural Resources Officer in Dakota City yesterday as Shane Allen Jensen, age 20, from Humboldt, Iowa. Jensen was being sought by family members and law enforcement on November 11th, 2017, after expressing thoughts of suicide by cop to family members and stealing a motor vehicle. When located by officers of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at 205 4th Avenue in Dakota City, Jensen fired one round in the air and then pointed a loaded 9 mm handgun at officers. An officer with the Iowa DNR fired one round at Jensen fatally wounding him.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The results of the completed investigation will be forwarded to the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office for review.
On November 11th, 2017, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation responded to an officer-involved shooting at 205 4th Street in Dakota City, Iowa. Officers with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office had responded to this location at about 2:30 p.m. on the report of a wanted subject hiding under the deck of the residence.
Officers encountered an armed subject who fired a weapon in the air and then pointed the weapon at officers. An officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources fired at the suspect fatally wounding him.
