Two Iowa teens dead Friday after crashing car into lake

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA – Two Iowa teens died Friday after they crashed their car into a lake.

Police in Council Bluffs, Iowa say that on October 27, 2017 at 6:13 AM, Council Bluffs emergency personnel were sent to West Shore Drive regarding a vehicle that had crashed into Lake Manawa. The vehicle was upside down and partially submerged. Council Bluffs Fire Department personnel entered the water and located two deceased individuals inside the vehicle. Arrow Towing responded and removed the vehicle from the water. The Pottawattamie County Medical Examiner was called to the scene, and after extrication, both listed male parties were positively identified. Both individuals are students at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs and school officials have been notified.

The driver was identified as 18-year-old Efron Lemus. The passenger was identified as 17-year-old Christian Renteril-Perez.

The Council Bluffs Police Department Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the possibility of both alcohol and speed being factors in this crash.
