SAC CITY – An Iowa man shot an intruder twice with his 9 mm pistol, sending the alleged crook to the hospital with felony charges.

On October 25, 2017, at approximately 4:00 AM, the Sac City Police Department responded to a 911 operator dispatch of a call of “shots fired” at 211 South 5th Street, Apartment #1 in Sac City, Iowa. After investigating the matter, it is believed that Bendji Joseph, a Fort Dodge, Iowa resident, forcibly entered 211 South 5th Street, Apartment #1 in Sac City, Iowa without permission, with the intent to commit a serious or aggravated assault, and that fearing serious bodily injury or death, Miguel Alcantara, one of the apartment’s occupants, fired two shots at Joseph with a 9mm pistol, hitting Joseph twice.

Joseph was transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa for treatment, and was later life-flighted to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, where he is believed to be in stable condition.

Joseph has been charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, and Burglary in the First Degree, a Class B Felony.

Assisting the Sac City Police Department was the Lake View Police Department, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sac County Attorney’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing.
