Meth criminal attacks police before plumber helps cops take him to jail

FORT DODGE – An alleged meth criminal wanted on warrants battled cops Monday morning in Fort Dodge before a concerned citizen intervened and helped subdue the man.

At approximately 10:25 AM Monday morning, October 16, officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department were on routine patrol in the area of 3rd Ave North and North 9th Street. While in the area, officers recognized an individual walking that was known to have outstanding arrest warrants. At that time, an officer approached a male, identified as Donald Rundall III, 40 years old of Fort Dodge, near the intersection of 3rd Ave North and North 9th Street.

Contact was made with Rundall and when the officer attempted to take him into custody, Rundall struck the officer in the face and began fleeing on foot. Officers pursued to the intersection of 4th Ave North and North 9th Street where a concerned citizen stopped to assist.

While being taken into custody, Rundall again struck two officers as well as the assisting citizen.

Rundall was examined by medical staff on scene and later transported to Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. Rundall was taken into custody on the following charges:

*Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations with Intent to Cause Serious Injury – D Felony
*Violation of Probation (2 counts) – Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations causing Bodily Injury – Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury – Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Possession of Methamphetamine (2nd Offense) – Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Possession of Codeine (2nd Offense) – Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Assault causing Injury – Serious Misdemeanor

Rundall is currently being held in the Webster County Jail.

The Fort Dodge Police Department extended a special thanks to Dan Riley with Dan Riley Plumbing for assisting the two officers this morning.
